It also sounds like they tried to tell the landlord they didn’t like it, which IS “trying to work things out” but he clearly feels he has the legal right to violate his tenant’s privacy- at which point it becomes a legal issue.

…still not sure how that makes him a jerk.

but I was talking about the lawyer being a jerk, because of the way he is out to raise the tension of the situation with the landlord, rather than trying to work things out. he starts off by assuming the landlord is unscrupulous, which seems more like a case of projection rather than reality.
