Surely if rent control is the only thing keeping SF diverse, it should apply to every building.

I lived in Boston, where landlords successfully overturned rent control laws, arguing they’re what kept rent prices so high. Problem is, after rent control went away, rents shot up in apartments people were living in, thousands of residents were forced out, and rents to this day remain sky-high, virtually on par with San Francisco. Boston also has a much higher percentage of corporate owned apartment buildings than SF. I don’t see rent control laws being why rent prices are high, or why we’d have more corporate landlords.
