A United Airlines flight that departed from San Francisco International Airport on Sunday landed safely in Greensboro, North Carolina, after the pilot reported an engine problem and declared an emergency, according to a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman.
United Airlines flight 256 departed from SFO and was headed to Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Sunday when the flight diverted, FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said today.
The plane, an Airbus A320, landed safely at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Bergen said.
United Airlines spokeswoman Karen May said the commercial passenger twin-engine jet was carrying 127 people, including five crewmembers.
May said the flight diverted “because there was a mechanical issue that we are looking into.”
The two pilots on board took precautionary measures and were able to divert and land the aircraft without incident or injuries, May said.
The plane was taken out of service for maintenance and passengers were bussed to Raleigh-Durham International Airport that night, she said.
The FAA is investigating the engine problem, Bergen said.
