A man wanted in connection with a San Francisco homicide was arrested after he led officers on a car chase from Richmond to the freeway Friday evening, a Richmond police lieutenant said.
San Francisco police solicited the help of Richmond police for 26-year-old Miguel Ortiz who was found at an apartment complex on West MacDonald Avenue in Richmond around 5 p.m., Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said.
Ortiz was wanted for a $10 million arrest warrant in connection with the homicide that happened about two weeks ago, Hill said.
Ortiz fled in a vehicle with three females onto eastbound Interstate Highway 580 towards Oakland, according to Hill.
The chase continued to westbound Interstate Highway 80 before the female driver made an unsafe lane change before the Powell Street exit in Emeryville, Hill said.
The suspect vehicle struck a Richmond police patrol car that sustained front-end damage in the collision, Hill said.
Ortiz and the three females were taken into custody without incident, he said.
Hill said it was “fortunate that no one got hurt” during the chase that coincided with the crowded evening commute.
