A woman was arrested Friday in connection with the extortion and robbery of a San Francisco Board of Supervisor member, police said.
Lasonya Wells, 40, of San Francisco, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping for ransom or extortion, kidnapping, extortion or blackmail, robbery with force, grand theft, two counts of possession of stolen property and probation violation, police said.
At 5:45 p.m., a bank security guard and the supervisor flagged down San Francisco police officers in the area of 16th and Mission streets.
The victim told officers the suspect, later identified as Wells, had taken his cell phone, police said.
The victim negotiated with Wells for the return of his phone in exchange for money, and was then escorted by Wells and two other suspects to an ATM, where Wells demanded money, police said.
After the victim withdrew the money, Wells returned his phone though a third party, and the suspects fled, police said.
Police said investigators were able to identify Wells as the suspect and arrest her at her residence.
Investigators are still looking to identify the two other suspects involved in the incident.
