A suspect was arrested Wednesday in connection with a bomb hoax at a college near San Francisco’s United Nations Plaza that prompted the evacuation of the school and shut down part of Market Street, police said today.
The threat was reported at about 11 a.m. at the International Culinary School at The Art Institute of California, located at 1130 Market St., police said.
A timer and threatening note were taped to a locker on the sixth floor of the college. Police responded with a bomb squad and evacuated the building while sweeping it with bomb-sniffing dogs, police said.
Market Street was closed between Seventh and Eighth streets.
Police identified a suspect, 19-year-old San Francisco resident Jesus Ivan Yerena, who was cited and released on suspicion of misdemeanor placing a false or facsimile bomb.
Police Sgt. Danielle Newman said today that the school was having midterm exams at the time of the threat but it doesn’t appear that was the reason for the hoax.
