Police arrested a male driver who allegedly struck a passing SUV while attempting to flee from police in San Francisco’s Bayview District this afternoon, a police spokesman said.
At 3:38 p.m., police on patrol near the intersection of Fitzgerald Avenue and Hawes Street noticed a reckless and suspicious driver, according to San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza.
The driver of the suspect vehicle attempted to flee from police and officers followed the suspect west on Fitzgerald Avenue.
The suspect vehicle then traveled through the Jennings Street intersection and crashed into an SUV traveling north through the intersection, Esparza said.
The impact of the collision caused the SUV to roll onto its side in the intersection, according to Esparza.
Officers said the driver of the suspect vehicle again attempted to flee and led police on a brief foot pursuit. Police detained and arrested the suspect.
Officers also recovered narcotics and detained the passenger in the suspect vehicle, Esparza said.
Police said the suspect sustained injuries not considered life-threatening during the collision. The driver of the SUV was transported to a hospital with injuries also not considered life-threatening, Esparza said.
