The deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon on Monday have prompted a San Francisco supervisor to ask for a public hearing to review the city’s own races and other large-scale events.
Supervisor Eric Mar requested the hearing at the board’s meeting at San Francisco City Hall today, a day after two explosions near the finish line at the Boston Marathon killed three people and injured scores of others.

Mar said San Francisco should review its security procedures in advance of numerous large events like the upcoming Craigslist Bay to Breakers race in May, the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in August, as well as several other races and special events like the America’s Cup regatta this summer.
“The purpose of the hearing is to assure our residents that we have adequate safety and emergency response measures and allay any fears that may have arisen as a result of the bombings in Boston,” Mar said.
He said, “I have complete confidence in our law enforcement agencies and yet it’s always a good idea to review and refine our strategies.”
No one is in custody yet in connection with the Boston Marathon explosion, according to local and federal authorities.
