10:29 PM: U.S. Coast Guard boats are continuing to search near San Francisco’s Ocean Beach tonight for signs of a 14-year-old boy who was lost in the water this afternoon, according to a spokeswoman.
A San Francisco Fire Department official said earlier this evening that they were suspending their part in the search for the missing boy, although some rescue crew members remained on the scene to keep watch.
The boy was swimming with an adult and another juvenile who were rescued from the water earlier this afternoon, according to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Loumania Stewart.
The adult male and a second juvenile were pulled from the water near Lincoln Way after the distressed swimmers were reported at 3:53 p.m., and taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, Stewart said.
Stewart confirmed that the missing boy is the son of the adult male, and that the rescued juvenile is a cousin.
Stewart said the Coast Guard expects to continue its search until sunrise using Coast Guard Cutter Sockeye and a rescue boat from Station Golden Gate, but the search could change if new information is obtained.
5 PM: Medical crews have pulled a distressed swimmer from the water at San Francisco’s Ocean Beach and there are possibly two other swimmers that need rescuing this afternoon, a fire official said.
The distressed swimmers were reported at 3:53 p.m. in the water off of Lincoln Way.
An adult was taken out of the water and required medical attention, the fire official said.
One juvenile is still out in the water, the fire official said.
A third swimmer is also possibly in distress, she said.
A U.S. Coast Guard boat and helicopter are heading to the scene to assist fire crews with the water rescue, she said.
