A San Francisco park ranger was struck in the head with a glass bottle while on patrol at the marijuana festivities in Golden Gate Park on Monday evening, police said.
Police said the victim, described as a 51-year-old park ranger employed by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, was sitting on an all-terrain vehicle around 7:15 p.m. in the park’s Sharon Meadow when a man approached him from behind.
The suspect, a 37-year-old man, hit the park ranger in the head with a glass bottle.
Police said the park ranger was taken to Saint Francis Memorial Hospital with a headache and complaints of pain. He was released within a few hours.
Officers took the suspect into custody and are continuing to investigate the motive for the attack. The suspect’s name was not immediately available from police.
