A 19-year-old San Francisco man who was arrested for allegedly robbing two people at gunpoint on a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus after fleeing onto another Muni bus Tuesday evening in the Mission District has been identified.
The suspect, Derrick Woods, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of robbery, according to San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan.
Woods was also arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, that was not registered to him, that was concealed, loaded while inside a vehicle and with the intent to commit a felony, as well as for possession of a high capacity magazine.
Police suspect Woods of robbing two people on the bus and then exiting the bus. But instead of running away, Woods boarded a second bus, at which point police caught up with him.
The incident occurred at about 7:25 p.m., near the intersection of 16th Street and Potrero Avenue. Woods apparently entered a Muni bus and sat directly across from a man in his early 20s, police said.
Officers said Woods tried to forcibly grab a cellphone away from the victim, but failed.
He then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim, while demanding the phone. The victim complied, according to police.
Then, Woods apparently turned to a female teenager on the bus and tried to forcibly take her cellphone, and again failed, police said.
He then pointed the gun at her and demanded the phone. She complied and handed it over, police said.
Officers said Woods then got off the bus and boarded a bus that was behind the first bus.
San Francisco police officers responded to the scene and took Woods into custody, recovering a semi-automatic handgun and the stolen cellphones.
Neither victim was injured during the robberies, according to police.
