A San Francisco police officer responding to a burglary alarm sounding at an apartment building near San Francisco’s Union Square on Sunday morning fired his gun at a suspect, a police sergeant said today.
According to San Francisco police Sgt. Monica MacDonald, officers responded to an apartment building in the 400 block of Mason Street, about a block from Union Square, at about 8:40 a.m. Sunday after a burglary alarm went off.
During the search of the building, a suspect came toward one of the officers, MacDonald said.
The officer fired his weapon, but did not hit the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and the incident remains under investigation, according to MacDonald.
The sergeant said the suspect was not armed and that no injuries were reported.
Later Sunday, a second officer-involved shooting was reported in the city’s Mission District.
In that shooting, police shot and killed a man in a restricted parking lot at the Mission police station at 630 Valencia St. around 5:20 p.m., police said.
Police later determined that the man was armed with a pellet gun.
