Police are investigating two separate shootings that happened early Sunday morning at about the same time and just a block away from one another in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood.
At 2:16 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of Folsom Street, according to police.
When officers arrived, they learned a suspect punched a 24-year-old man. When the victim fell to the ground, a handgun inside his pocket discharged, police said.
The victim was struck in the leg by the bullet. A 21-year-old woman was also accidentally struck in her foot, police said.
Officers were unable to recover a gun from the scene, according to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza.
Both victims were taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
At the same time, officers responded to the corner of Juniper and Folsom streets, also on a report of a shooting. A 23-year-old man was shot in his abdomen and pelvis. He was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to police.
When officers tried to interview the victim at the hospital, he was uncooperative and refused to say what happened.
At the scene of the shooting, officers found bullet casings and blood. Witnesses told police they heard multiple gunshots and also heard a car speed away around the same time, Esparza said.
The two incidents don’t appear to be related, but officers are continuing to investigate, according to Esparza.
