Two men were seriously injured on Thursday night when two male suspects assaulted them with a blunt object and a knife near San Francisco’s Alamo Square Park, police said today.
At about 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, the victims were walking on Divisadero Street between Fell and Oak streets when two men, described to be between 18 and 25 years old, approached them, according to police.
A fight ensued and one of the suspects hit the 59-year-old victim over the head with an unknown blunt object and then stabbed him in the chest with a knife, police said.
The second suspect then struck the second victim, a 61-year-old man, over the head with a blunt object multiple times.
Police said the blunt object used in the assault appears to be either a skateboard or a pipe.
Following the assault, both suspects fled the area on foot, first heading south on Divisadero Street and then turning west onto Oak Street, in the direction of the Panhandle.
Both victims were transported to San Francisco General Hospital. The victim who was both hit over the head and stabbed in the chest suffered life-threatening injuries while the other man suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Police have not said whether any arrests have been made in connection to the assault and are working to determine a motive.
