4:48 PM: A man who police initially said was critically injured in a shooting in San Francisco’s Hunters Point neighborhood on Saturday evening is now expected to survive, a police spokeswoman said today.
The shooting was reported at 7:29 p.m. Saturday near Evans Avenue and Middle Point Street.
The 19-year-old victim was driving in a vehicle with his friend when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone opened fire, San Francisco police spokeswoman Sgt. Danielle Newman said.
Officers in the area heard the multiple gunshots, then saw the victim’s vehicle and pulled it over, Newman said.
The victim, who was driving the vehicle, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for gunshot graze wounds to the head and hand, Newman said. Police previously said the injuries were life-threatening, but later clarified that was not the case.
A passenger in the car was not injured in the shooting.
The pair said they did not see the suspect vehicle and could not provide a description of the suspect who shot at them, Newman said.

11:56 AM: A man was critically injured when he was shot in the head while sitting in a car in San Francisco’s Hunters Point neighborhood on Saturday evening, police said today.
The shooting was reported at 7:29 p.m. Saturday near Evans Avenue and Middle Point Road.
The 19-year-old victim was in the vehicle with his friend when someone shot him twice in the back of the head and once in the hand, according to police.
He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for the injuries, which are considered life-threatening, police said.
No suspect information was immediately available this morning.
