San Francisco police say officers from the Ingleside station may have saved the life of an elderly man experiencing a medical emergency at a public housing complex in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood last Thursday.
Police were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Velasco Avenue at 5:19 p.m. on reports of a person in distress.
Once on scene, officers found a 75-year-old man lying unconscious on the ground with his neck stuck between the front door of his apartment and the door jam.
After freeing the victim’s head officers began administering chest compressions until he took a breath and continued rendering aid until personnel from the San Francisco Fire Department arrived on scene, according to police.
Firefighters told the officers that their actions “unquestionably” saved the victim’s life. The victim is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
