San Francisco police are warning residents about several potential scams that have recently been reported in the area.
The scams include callers claiming to represent local government and soliciting donations for an earthquake relief fund and those who call grandparents claiming to be a grandchild in distress who needs money, according to police.
Other scammers claim they recently entered the country and have a large amount of money to donate to a church or charity that they need delivered by the victim after the victim provides “good faith money,” police said.
Still other scams involve mail theft, fraudulent home repair, sweepstakes and lotteries, according to police.
Anyone in San Francisco who believes they are the victim of a scam may contact the Police Department at (415) 553-0123.
