San Francisco police are alerting the public about a recent series of scams.
The suspects of the scams are posing as PG&E or San Francisco Water Department employees demanding payments for overdue bills, according to police.
The suspects call potential victims and claim their bills are overdue, threatening to cancel services unless a payment is received, police said.
Victims are told in the scam the only form of payment is by Money-Pak. When the victim calls a number given by the suspect and supplies the Money-Pak account number, the suspect gains access to the funds, gives a confirmation number, and hangs up, police said.
Neither PG&E nor the city’s water department requests payments this way, police said.
Anyone who gets this type of call is asked to file a police report.
