San Francisco police responded to four shootings and a stabbing this weekend, including a dramatic freeway shooting on Interstate Highway 280 Saturday afternoon that injured two men.
The first shooting occurred just after 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the Mission District at 20th and Capp streets. A suspect described only as a man around 19 to 20 years old approached a 19-year-old woman and fired a handgun at her, grazing her head, police said.
The suspect fled, while the woman was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to survive.
Later that morning, around 5:30 a.m., a male victim was stabbed in the abdomen while walking on an overpass between Ocean Avenue and Howth Street, near the Balboa Park BART station.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. The suspect was last seen fleeing toward Howth Street.
Just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday, two men were shot on northbound Highway 280 near the U.S. Highway 101 split, according to police.
Two male suspects in a vehicle shot at the two men in their 20s in a separate vehicle, police said. One victim suffered a gunshot wound to his back and the other was grazed on his temple and neck, according to police.
The victims’ vehicle, a gray Mazda sedan, struck a red sedan in front of them after theshooting and then came to a stop in the roadway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Vu Williams.
No one in the red vehicle was injured, Williams said.
Both shooting victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment and were expected to survive their injuries.
The suspects left the area using the ramp from northbound Highway 280 to southbound Highway 101.
The victims are not cooperating with investigators and police had not identified suspects as of this morning.
Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a man was shot in the buttocks in the Mission District at 14th and Shotwell streets, according to police.
The victim, a 23-year-old man, told police he was walking toward the entrance of a business when he heard several shots and was struck by a bullet. His injuries were not considered life-threatening and police did not have a suspect description.
Around 3:45 a.m. Sunday, a man and a woman were injured in a shooting in the Mission District.
The victims were in the area of Mariposa Street and Potrero Avenue when they were shot at. The woman was struck in the face and the man suffered cuts from flying vehicle window glass.
The woman drove herself and the male victim to the hospital and both were expected to survive their injuries.
Police did not release any suspect descriptions in the shooting.
