A 30-year-old motorcyclist who died Saturday evening after sideswiping a car and striking a pedestrian in San Francisco’s Civic Center neighborhood has been identified.
San Francisco resident Dakota Caruk died from wounds suffered in the collision, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Emergency crews responded to the area of McAllister Street and Van Ness Avenue just outside City Hall around 5 p.m. Saturday after a 911 call came in reporting that a motorcyclist sideswiped a black Lexus at the intersection.
The impact of the collision caused the motorcyclist to crash into a pedestrian walking in the crosswalk, police said.
Police said the motorcyclist, Caruk, was dead when emergency crews arrived at the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Walk San Francisco, a pedestrian advocacy group, considers Van Ness Avenue and McAllister Street one of the city’s high-injury intersections.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
