Two more screenings of World Cup 2014 games will be held Tuesday at San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza as Team USA takes on Belgium in the next round of the international soccer tournament.
The additional free viewings at Civic Center Plaza were announced today after the U.S. team secured a spot in the round of 16 last Thursday, even though they lost to Germany but had a stronger record than other teams in their group, Ghana and Portugal.
The two games will be shown on the massive screen in front of City Hall starting with the 9 a.m. match of Argentina versus Switzerland, followed by the USA-Belgium game at 1 p.m.
The free viewings are provided by the city’s Recreation and Park Department in partnership with America SCORES Bay Area and sponsorship from Twitter and Visa.
Rec and Park officials said they received funding from generous donors to screen the additional games.
Other games that will be screened at the plaza include the July 9 semifinal match and the finals on July 13.
Previous games in the roughly month-long soccer tournament held in Brazil have been screened at the plaza including last Thursday’s USA 1-0 loss to Germany.
