3:18 PM: Crews have stopped water from trickling down onto the platform of the Civic Center BART station this afternoon and San Francisco Municipal Railway plumbers are working on replacing a corroded pipe, a Muni spokesman said.
BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost initially said the leak was due to a drain that became clogged at a street-level Muni bus stop above the underground BART platform.
Trost said BART notified Muni engineers about the problem so that they could clear the drain.
Muni spokesman Paul Rose said crews checked the grates on Market Street along with the rest of the plumbing infrastructure and determined that the leak was actually coming from a corroded pipe.
Rose said the leak was stopped and plumbers are working to cut out the section of corroded pipe and replace it, permanently stopping the leak.
Repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the day, he said.

A drain at a street-level Muni bus stop above the underground BART platform often becomes clogged during the first heavy rainfall of the season after dry material collects throughout the year, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.
Trost said BART has notified Muni engineers about the problem so that they can clear the drain.
Muni officials were not immediately available to comment on the leak.
