Nearly 1,000 PG&E customers in a northern portion of San Francisco were briefly without power this afternoon because of an underground equipment failure, a utility spokesman said.
The power outage initially impacted 980 customers, including office buildings, beginning at 12:27 p.m., but was impacting only about 700 customers around 1:15 p.m. and only two customers as of about 3:20 p.m., PG&E spokesman Jason King said.
PG&E crews responded to the scene and determined the cause of the outage was an equipment failure in a manhole vault beneath the surface of the street, according to King.
He said the equipment failure was located in the 100 block of Bay Street in the city’s Telegraph Hill neighborhood, but the outage impacted customers in the Financial District and Chinatown as well.
The remaining two PG&E customers without power are expected to have service restored around 8 p.m. tonight, King said.
