A 27-year-old woman suspected of stabbing a 10-year-old boy on a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus traveling through the city’s Bayview District on Thursday afternoon pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against her today.
The grandmother of the 10-year-old boy attended the arraignment of San Francisco resident Sharinna Beoncia Grady this morning and said her grandson is doing okay.
San Francisco Assistant District Attorney Alex Bastian said that Grady entered a not guilty plea this morning and that her bail was set at $175,000.
Grady was taken into police custody shortly after 2:45 p.m. on Thursday when officers received a report of a stabbing on a bus near the intersection of Palou Avenue and Jennings Street, according to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza.
Esparza said the 10-year-old boy was riding the bus when he apparently got into an argument with Grady.
Grady apparently stabbed the boy with a folding knife, police said.
Passengers on the Muni bus restrained the woman and took the knife away, according to police. Esparza said the bus stopped and officers were able to take the woman into custody.
Officers recovered the knife and booked it into evidence.
Grady was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Esparza said.
Police said the boy suffered stab wounds to his shoulder and hand, as well as a scrape to his cheek.
The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.
Esparza said that the boy and the woman are not related and that the assault remains under investigation.
Prosecutors said that several witness, including a man who allegedly wrestled the knife out of the suspect’s hand, saw the incident unfold and are cooperating with the investigation.
Grady is expected to be in court again on Thursday for a status update, according to Bastian.
