Residents of the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco Sunday will celebrate the makeover of Amigo’s Market, according to the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation and HealthRetailSF.
A ribbon cutting and comments from community leaders will begin at 11 a.m. at Amigo’s Market at 500 Ellis Street. The transformed market is giving a front seat to fruits and vegetables and the back seat to alcohol, tobacco and junk food, according to the two groups.
A mural at the front of the store welcomes patrons and neighbors. Residents and visitors to the store Sunday can participate in taste tests, take a store tour, enjoy music and learn how to shop and cook healthy meals, leaders of the two groups said.
