Police are investigating a hit-and-run collision on Tuesday evening in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood that left a bicyclist injured.
Shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, a bicyclist was riding near the intersection of Stevenson and Sixth streets when the driver of a white four-door sedan struck her, according to police.
Officers said the suspect vehicle, driven by a woman believed to be in her 20s, was driving on Sixth Street and was possibly fleeing from a minor hit-and-run collision with a bus when she decided to turn onto Stevenson Street, heading the wrong way and speeding.
The driver struck the cyclist, a woman in her 40s, in the roadway and then fled the scene, police said.
Officers said the bicyclist suffered head trauma and possibly a broken leg. She was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to survive her injuries.
The driver has not yet been arrested and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
