A pedestrian is expected to survive after being struck by a car in downtown San Francisco near the Powell BART station on Tuesday night, police said.
Officers saw the collision while patrolling in the area of Eddy and Cyril Magnin streets shortly after 10:40 p.m., according to police.
The vehicle stopped at a red light on eastbound Eddy Street as pedestrians crossed west, police said.
When the light turned green the car turned left to northbound Cyril Magnin Street and struck the pedestrian, police said.
The driver of the car backed up then continued to drive north, according to police.
Officers chased the vehicle on foot but were unable to stop the driver, police said.
Officers found the vehicle later that night, according to police.
The pedestrian was transported for injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, police said.
No arrests have been made and no further details were immediately available.
