The search for a woman who reportedly fell or jumped off the Bay Bridge this morning following a traffic crash on the bridge is continuing, and the California Highway Patrol is now following up on a report of woman seen getting out of the water after the incident.
The California Highway Patrol, fire crews and the United States Coast Guard are involved in the search, according to the CHP.
The CHP responded at 2:06 a.m. to a report of a crash on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 on the bridge just east of the Treasure Island off-ramp.
Responding officers located a crash involving a single vehicle and a person standing off the roadway on the bike path.
Two women had reportedly left the scene of the crash and were seen walking east on the bike path.
A responding officer then saw one of the women either fall or jump from the bridge and into the water, according to the CHP.
One eastbound lane of the bridge was closed for several hours as emergency crews searched for the woman.
The CHP reported just before 6 a.m. there was information a woman allegedly exited the water.
The CHP is also advising commuters there will be an extra presence this morning near the Bay Bridge toll plaza due to the earlier incident.
