All lanes have reopened on westbound Interstate Highway 80 on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco after a fatal motorcycle accident tonight, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded to a report of an accident on westbound Highway 80 just east of Fremont Street and west of Treasure Island around 8:10 p.m., CHP officials said.
First responders attempted life-saving measures on a motorcyclist involved in the accident but the person died at the scene, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.
Several drivers stopped their cars near the scene but CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said he did not know if they were witnesses or involved in the accident.
The San Francisco medical examiner’s office responded to the scene, Cistaro said.
A Sig-alert was issued at 8:18 p.m. and lanes reopened shortly before 10 p.m., according to the CHP.
The far right lane remained opened while officers conducted an investigation into the accident, Van Eckhardt said.
Motorists are advised to expect heavy traffic on the bridge tonight due to the earlier lane closures, according to the CHP.
Westbound service on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s 108-Treasure Island bus line experienced delays due to the accident.
