A man is in custody this morning after he was seen over the railing on the Bay Bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded to the report at 9:35 a.m., police said. For a short time, a motorist had stopped next to the man’s car on the bridge and tried to speak with him, CHP Officer Mike Ferguson said.
The CHP arrived at the scene at 9:39 a.m. with an officer trained in crisis intervention, Ferguson said. CHP requested assistance from San Francisco police, who sent a crisis negotiator.
CHP’s air unit and the Coast Guard also responded to the scene, Ferguson said.
As of 10:20 a.m., the man was in police custody, CHP officials said. One lane remained blocked but a CHP officer said it would reopen “any minute.”
