A 60 to 70-year-old Asian woman died this morning on northbound Interstate Highway 280 in San Francisco, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The first report of the collision came in at about 5:50 a.m. on Highway 280 at the connector with southbound U.S. Highway 101, CHP officials said.
The woman was pushing a metal handcart on the highway when a 2004 Lincoln struck the cart and a 2005 Nissan struck her, according to the CHP.
The woman died in the collision, CHP officials said.
Both drivers stopped and were found to be sober, according to the CHP. Neither was injured, CHP officials said.
An officer inspected the brakes and steering of the Lincoln and released the vehicle to the driver. The damage to the Nissan was so severe that an inspection was not possible, according to the CHP.
The CHP issued a Sig-alert at 6:07 a.m. when it closed parts of the highway and all lanes reopened at about 7:50 p.m.
