It’s time for Bay Area residents to dust off their umbrellas as wet weather is expected to hit the region early this week, a National Weather Service forecaster said today.
A Pacific storm system carrying “a fair amount of moisture” is bearing down on the Pacific Northwest and could bring up to an inch of rain to North Bay hills starting on Monday night, forecaster Charles Bell said.
San Francisco, the East Bay, and communities on the Peninsula could get between a quarter-inch and a half-inch of rainfall, with showers predicted to start early Tuesday morning and continue through Wednesday, Bell said.
Communities in the South Bay could get a quarter-inch or less, according to the weather service.
Motorists are advised to use extra precaution when driving if it does rain, as the first hour of rainfall is likely to produce slick and hazardous conditions on Bay Area roadways.
“So much oil has built up on the roads with the lack of rain,” Bell said.
Drivers are advised to leave extra time to commute and leave plenty of space between vehicles, especially in heavy traffic.
The storm front is not expected to include significant winds. As of Sunday, the weather service did not plan on issuing any weather advisories or warnings, Bell said.
