2:17 PM: A high-speed crash in San Francisco’s Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood this morning left a teenage boy dead, his mother and sister in critical condition and four others injured, according to police.
The crash was reported around 6:55 a.m. at Pine and Gough streets.
San Francisco fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said a woman in her 60s or 70s was driving recklessly in the area, went through several stoplights and was picking up speed on Pine Street when she rear-ended a minivan occupied by a mother and her teenage son and daughter.
A bystander at the scene who is a nurse jumped in to render aid to the victims, police Sgt. Danielle Newman said.
The teenage boy, who is 16 or 17 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene while the mother and daughter were taken to a hospital with injuries that are considered life-threatening.
The crash caused the van to collide with a catering truck, injuring three people inside the truck. They were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, Newman said.
The woman who rear-ended the van was also transported to a hospital to be treated for an injury that is not considered life-threatening, Newman said.
The sergeant said the intersection of Pine and Gough was shut down after the crash and “will be closed for quite some time.”
