More than 7,000 children from San Francisco schools and community groups will take part in or show off their work at the San Francisco Unified School District Arts Festival starting Saturday, festival officials said.
The nine-day celebration presented by the SFUSD and other organizations will take place through March 8 at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza.
This year’s event will include visual artwork by 2,000 students, live music and dance by more than 65 student and local groups, screenings of films and videos by students, poetry readings and hands-on art pursuits.
All events are free and open to the public. All students in public, private, parochial and independent schools in San Francisco are eligible to participate.
The festival is at the core of the school district’s Arts Education Master Plan, which promises equity and access to daily arts education for all school district students.
