A pedestrian who was fatally struck near San Francisco City Hall on Sunday night has been identified as a 72-year-old man, according to the city’s medical examiner’s office.
The incident was reported around 11 p.m. near Van Ness and Golden Gate avenues.
Il Sun Im, a San Francisco resident, was struck while crossing Van Ness Avenue outside of the marked crosswalk, according to police.
A car heading north on Van Ness Avenue struck Im and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The car’s driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
According to police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy, the driver has not been cited or arrested because there is no evidence of criminal negligence.
According to the pedestrian advocacy group Walk San Francisco, Im is the seventh person to be fatally struck by a car in the city this year. Of the seven, four have been killed on Van Ness Avenue, according to the group.
