Appealing Events: Brother Ali at Bottom of the Hill

Activist and rapper Brother Ali is headed to SF’s Bottom of the Hill on his Home Away From Home tour. Inspired by legendary NYC acts like KRS-One and Rakim, Ali’s messages speak to a global audience and rarely shy away from the harsh truths of today’s world. On 2012’s Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, Ali waxes poetic on the dichotomy of feeling outrage towards a bevy of injustices, yet powerless to feel more than frustration.

Joining Ali is fellow activist and rapper Bambu, who recently finished up a new book and album thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. DJ Last Word anchors the artists and provides expert backing for up-and-comer MaLLY. MaLLY is definitely an artist to watch, adding levity to similarly heavy subjects with the type of over-confident flow that fits his strong rhymes but never alienates his audience.
