A 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing on San Francisco’s Market Street on Monday but the case has been discharged by prosecutors pending further investigation.
The man, a San Francisco resident, was arrested following the death of 21-year-old Jose Manuel Puc-Muy, who was found stabbed at about 3:20 a.m. Monday in the lobby of an apartment building in the 1700 block of Market Street, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.

Puc-Muy was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the city’s first homicide victim of the new year.
The suspect was detained a short time later and formally arrested later that day, Shyy said. However, prosecutors on Wednesday declined to file charges against him pending further investigation into the stabbing, Assistant District Attorney Scot Clark said.
Police have not yet released additional details about the case.
