More than 200 illuminated snowflakes will brighten up San Francisco’s Market Street this evening, when a lighting ceremony is planned by Mayor Ed Lee and other city officials.
The ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Powell and Market streets near the San Francisco Municipal Railway cable car turnaround, where the mayor will lead a countdown to the lighting of 202 five-foot LED snowflakes attached to historic lampposts.
This is the sixth year that the snowflakes have adorned Market Street. They extend from First to Seventh streets, and will stay up until mid-January.
The snowflakes have already been lit up in recent weeks, but tonight’s event marks the “official” lighting, according to the Market Street Association.
