After local trans activists reported an increase in attacks on transgender women, San Francisco Board of Supervisors member David Campos has requested a hearing on public safety strategies to protect that community.
The Ex reports that El-La Programa Para Trans Latinas, an organization focused on San Francisco’s TransLatina community, says that there have been at least four attacks on transgender people since the beginning of the year.
The attacks include an assault at a bar and a date rape, the Ex reports.
A date has yet to be published for the hearing, which Campos requested at Tuesday’s Board of Supes meeting
At the meeting, Campos urged public safety officials to come up with “creative ways to prevent, address and respond to the transphobic violence which exists in our city.”
