A man was knocked unconscious in an attack in San Francisco’s United Nations Plaza on Tuesday evening, a police spokesman said.
The attack was reported at 7:42 p.m. in the plaza on Market Street, between Seventh and Eighth streets.
Three suspects approached the victim, who is in his 40s, and one punched him in the head, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
When the victim lost consciousness, the second suspect dragged him toward Market Street while the third went through his pockets, Shyy said.
The trio then fled and had not been found as of this morning, Shyy said. No detailed description of them was immediately available.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and was initially thought to have life-threatening injuries, but Shyy said this morning that he is now expected to survive.
Investigators believe there were likely witnesses to the attack since it happened in a large public plaza while it was still light out.
