A man was injured in a fight on San Francisco’s Market Street this afternoon that police said apparently stemmed from an attempted drug deal.
Just before 2:30 p.m., a man approached another man near Seventh Street in the Mid-Market neighborhood and asked if he wanted to buy marijuana, police said.
It is unclear at what point the encounter turned violent, but one man suffered an injury behind his right ear, police said.
Afterward, the injured man sat in the back of an ambulance with an open back door, with blood slowly dripping down his neck from behind his right ear. Medical personnel were tending to the wound as the man spoke with police officers.
Police said he would need stitches for the injury. It was unclear how the wound had occurred.
Another man was seated on the sidewalk leaning against a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus shelter in handcuffs surrounded by four police officers. He was led to a police car and put inside at about 2:45 p.m.
Police said he was identified as the assailant in the fight and was being detained.
