10:31 PM: A plainclothes San Francisco police officer shot a suspect that police said pulled a gun on the officer in the Mission District tonight.
The shooting was reported at 8:06 p.m. in the 200 block of 14th Street, police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.
Two plainclothes officers from the department’s Gang Task Force were working along with two probation officers in separate vehicles in the area when they saw two people they thought they recognized as gang members.
One of the officers attempted to talk to one of the two people who ran from police with the officer in pursuit.
While running, the suspect pulled a gun, later determined to be a TEC-9 pistol, and the officer ordered him to drop the weapon, Andraychak said.
Instead, the suspect turned toward the officer and began to raise the pistol. The officer feared for his life and shot at the suspect, Andraychak said.
Police said the suspect was hit twice and was then taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Police remained in the area of 14th Street for several hours and, according to a BART dispatcher, BART complied with SFPD requests to close the 16th Street BART station has closed for the night as of shortly after 11 p.m.

9:18 PM: A suspect shot by police in San Francisco’s Mission District tonight has been taken to a hospital, according to police.
The shooting was reported at 8:06 p.m. near the corner of 14th and Natoma streets.
The suspect was shot twice and taken to a hospital. The extent of the suspect’s injuries is unknown.
Police activity in the area is disrupting traffic and Muni service. The 14 and 49 Muni routes are being rerouted around 14th and Mission streets.
