A Republican state senator introduced a resolution Thursday calling for the suspension of Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco/San Mateo, following his arrest on fraud and weapons trafficking allegations.
The resolution by Sen. Bob Huff, D-Diamond Bar, reads “The Senate hereby suspends Senator Leland Y. Yee from exercising any of the powers of his office as a Member of the Senate until such time as his pending criminal matter has been resolved.”
As of this about 8 a.m. the resolution was not yet listed on the agenda for the senate session at 9 a.m.
Numerous lawmakers have called for Yee’s resignation following his arrest by the FBI Wednesday, including Senate President Pro tem Darrell Steinberg, U.S. Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, and fellow state senator from San Francisco Mark Leno.
Yee is charged with one count of weapons trafficking scheming to defraud citizens of his honest services by allegedly soliciting and accepting campaign contributions in a federal criminal complaint unsealed Wednesday.
He is one of 26 defendants named in the complaint, which also includes notorious San Francisco gang leader Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow and former San Francisco school board president Keith Jackson, who is implicated in a planned murder-for-hire scheme.
