Spending $50,000,000 to save 19 people a year!? That’s crazy! I’d rather see that money go to education or helping the homeless get meds, etc to help prevent them from wanting to take their own lives in the first place. I hope this doesn’t go through.

It is the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.

The name was changed in order to fund Golden Gate Transit, servicing Marin and Southern Sonoma counties, an area previously serviced by Greyhound without taxpayer dollars.

Bonds issued to finance the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge promised an end to bridge tolls once the debt was paid in full. Just before that date, Golden Gate Transit was created and the tolls have risen from 25 cents each way to the many dollars the toll is now.

It is long overdue to turn the Bridge over to CalTrans and eliminate the trough-feeding, termed-out politicians running the bridge into a boondoggle. Marin voters didn’t want to raise their sales tax for BART, well they can pay for their own transit.
