It was watching the poor lady getting tortured. The newspaper should be ashamed. All the guy had to do was get out and either get some money from an ATM or jump in another cab . There was plenty in the gas station where she stopped.

Unscrupulous companies may tell a driver they are not covered but they are lying either to the driver or to the SFMTA regulators. Any Lawyer worth her salt can get that cleared up quickly.
It costs Metro Cab abut $3,000 per year per cab for that coverage and we have drivers collecting on it right now!
BTW, I wish Dean Clark would stop telling everybody in the world that cab companies should have uninsured motorists coverage. Workers comp solves that problem for the drivers.
When credit cards were mandated in N.Y. a while back the drivers had a fit but then they found out that their income came up %30 according to the NY Times.
Why any driver would rather have an empty cab than have a fare that would pay %95 is a very good question.

Who the hell are these people calling cab drivers out on being upset? What right do we have to judge them for being frustrated? It’s really disgusting to know there are people who wield cameras like war flags to try to bring down someone obviously already at a low point in their night, possibly their week, possibly their life. This woman was probably reprimanded for her behavior when obviously the problem was not in her attitude, but with the city institutionally taking advantage of the weak. We need to start turning our cameras and/or smartphones off and talking to each other. This is insanity.
