So many drivers race to wait for the next red light.

In addition to supporting our “Transit First” efforts, the City could offset some chunk of budget deficit by enforcing laws like these (as well as complete stop at stop signs) out in the avenues.

$146 is low for a moving violation such as this. How can we be talking a potential $300 for handicapped placards and leaving this gem at its current “economy” level?

Sigh. And yeah, forget about all these half baked ideas how to make the streetcars safer when they’re forced to share the street with cars. Ain’t going to happen, folks. A tip of the hat though to the drivers who watch out and hold the doors shut when they see an overzealous car approaching.
BTW, when they’re going to redo Taraval in a few years from now, they’re hopefully smart enough to relocate utilities to allow the L to be taken *underground* eventually. Where it belongs (just like the N, M and up an unnamed line up Geary Blvd).

Though they would probably need to put some big, jagged metal parts on them too to punish drivers who just drive straight through the barrier.

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have been almost hit when detraining the N at 9th or 7th and Irving.

I get on and off everyday at Sunset and cars are constantly trying to race by the train so as not to miss the traffic light. At least once a month I have to nearly jump back in the train as I’m trying to exit so as to avoid being hit. I don’t have a solution unfortunately but a $146 fine seems rather low considering the risks involved to transit riders, especially in a city that has a goal of 85% of trips being made on public transit.
