3:44 PM: A suspicious device found on the Treasure Island offramp of the Bay Bridge this afternoon has been moved, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
The suspicious device was found on one of the railings of the eastbound Treasure Island offramp, CHP Officer Mike Ferguson said.
The exact nature of the device or object remains unclear, and Ferguson said he does not yet know whether it was found to be harmless.
The report of the suspicious object around 12:52 p.m. triggered an investigation that briefly shut down the Bay Bridge in both directions, causing major traffic delays.
Traffic has since resumed in both directions, Ferguson said.
3:26 PM: Traffic began moving again on the San Francisco Bay Bridge about two and a half hours after a suspicious device was reported at Treasure Island, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said today.
Access to the Bay Bridge was shut down during an investigation of the device found on the eastbound Treasure Island offramp, according to the CHP.
The offramp and the westbound Treasure Island onramp were closed after the device was reported at 12:52 p.m.
3:04 PM: Access to the San Francisco Bay Bridge is extremely limited this afternoon due to an investigation of a suspicious device on the eastbound Treasure Island offramp, according to California Highway Patrol spokeswoman.
Bridge access will be limited to allow investigators access to the area where the device was found on the eastbound Treasure Island offramp, CHP spokeswoman Sgt. Diana McDermott said.
Traffic will not be completely stopped, as a CHP officer had previously said, but drivers will be provided with slow guidance across the bridge, McDermott said.
It is unclear how long access will be blocked, McDermott said.
The offramp and the westbound Treasure Island onramp were closed after the device was reported at 12:52 p.m.
2:40 PM: The San Francisco Bay Bridge is being shut down in both directions this afternoon due to an investigation of a suspicious device found on the eastbound Treasure Island offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The eastbound Treasure Island onramp and westbound Treasure Island offramp are both already closed due to the investigation, according to CHP Officer Ron Simmons.
The device was reported at 12:52 p.m.
