Men Convicted In Brutal Beating Of SF Giants Fan Now Face Federal Weapons Charges

Two men who pleaded guilty last month to severely beating San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow in Los Angeles in 2011 were indicted Wednesday on federal weapons charges.

Louie Sanchez, 31, and Marvin Norwood, 33, are accused of being felons in possession of firearms, according to the indictment filed Wednesday in the Los Angeles-based U.S. Central District of California.

On Feb. 20, Sanchez pleaded guilty to one count of mayhem and Norwood pleaded guilty to one count of assault for the beating of Stow on March 31, 2011, following the Giants’ season opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Stow, a 45-year-old father of two who worked as a Santa Cruz paramedic, suffered severe brain trauma in the attack and will require daily medical assistance for the rest of his life.

Following the guilty pleas, Sanchez was sentenced to eight years in prison while Norwood was sentenced to four years, Los Angeles County prosecutors said.

Authorities said in the federal indictment that when the two men were arrested on July 21, 2011, they were in possession of two semi-automatic rifles, a 12-gauge shotgun, a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver and ammunition.

Sanchez and Norwood were both felons at the time. Sanchez was previously convicted of felony evading police and misdemeanor domestic violence while Norwood was previously convicted of felony domestic violence, according to the indictment.

No court hearing has been scheduled yet on the federal charges. Norwood’s attorney, Nadine Hettle from the Office of the Federal Public Defender, was not immediately available today to comment on the case.
