President Obama will recognize the San Francisco Giants for their 2012 World Series Championship and their community efforts in a White House ceremony on Monday.
The team beat the Detroit Tigers in the 2012 World Series, their second championship since the franchise moved to San Francisco from New York in 1958.
One of the team’s notable efforts is their “Junior Giants” program, where children ages five through 18 from underprivileged backgrounds have the opportunity to play in a non-competitive baseball league, Senior Vice President of Communications Staci Slaughter said.
The team has also done work against anti-bullying, Slaughter said.
When the team visited the White House in 2011 Obama acknowledged the “It Gets Better” campaign, which provides a message of hope for LGBT youth who are harassed by their peers.
The team will then play a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies beginning on Tuesday.
