To paraphrase the perpetually poorly constructed Lord of the Rings meme in which Mordor is swapped for damn near anything, one does not simply walk into a Mac DeMarco show. Especially at the Fillmore. DeMarco, the consummate performer, hits the iconic SF venue tonight with LA psych rocker Chris Cohen. The two complement each other in their melding of disparate genres: DeMarco with his idiosyncratic “jizz jazz” and Cohen with a fluid slew of influences from his time alongside heavy-hitting artists.
What truly makes for a Mac DeMarco show is the detritus around the music. It’s the excess of DeMarco’s potty mouth and stage presence, his lack of seriousness in the face of some seriously good music, that makes for a truly unique performance. Show up, relax, and let loose this Tuesday night.
